Russia’s Campaign 'Forcing Daesh to Stay on Defensive'
Russia's military operation in Syria has shuffled all the cards in the Middle East and has forced Daesh terrorists to give up their offensive, Italian journalist Francesco Alberoni wrote for the newspaper Il Giornale.

According to the author, Russia’s involvement prevented the expansion of terrorism in Syria and stopped terrorist attacks in the northern regions of the country.
At the same time, the current situation is “embarrassing” for the United States. According to Alberoni, the US is finally starting to realize that there is a revolutionary movement throughout the Islamic world, the aim of which is not only to get rid of the influence of the West, but also to overthrow old elites, seize power and take control over important energy resources.
“The US realized that under whatever logo revolutionaries are fighting — whether Al-Qaeda, Daesh or Boko Haram — they all have the same goal: to create a powerful Islamic state that will get rid of the influence of Western countries and their lifestyle as it happened 30 years ago in Iran under Khamenei,” the author wrote.
Alberoni argued that in a few years the US may come to the conclusion that it needs reconciliation with Russia, because the latter can be a credible partner and a key force in the joint fight against Islamism.
“[…] who knows, maybe in the future it [the US] will also understand that an Islamized Europe – including Turkey – may one day stop being faithful and obedient ally as it is today. Then it will realize that it needs to reach peace with Russia, because communism and the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991, while today's Russia — a Christian and European country — is able to build a powerful wall against Islamists,” the journalist concluded.
